Enrichment
At Lapford Community Primary School we offer a broad and balanced curriculum that is enriched in a number of ways to excite our children’s appetite for learning. We aim to plan activities that enrich the experiences and learning of our pupils, so that they are challenged or get to experience things that they otherwise might not.
Memorable Moments
Whilst the teaching of basic skills in English and Mathematics are very important at our school, we are proud of offering our children many other opportunities which support their development into rounded, confident and tolerant individuals.
Each of our half-termly topics includes a memorable moment which brings the learning to life. These have included: trips, visits, theme-days, workshops and linking up with our partner primaries or Chulmleigh College.
Forest School
We are incredibly fortunate to have an amazing woodland/pond/wildlife facility within our school grounds. Children can enjoy a huge range of activities in this area, including bug hunting, den building and circle time. Every child in the school benefits from regular Forest school sessions run by Mrs K, our qualified level 3 Forest School leader.
We believe that Forest School promotes the holistic development of all children fostering resilient, confident, independent and creative learners.
Community links
We value our position at the heart of the local community and strive to strengthen our links wherever possible.
We have welcomed into school representatives from many organisations, such as: the Fire service, the police, NSPCC, Childrens Hospice South West, the marines, and local businesses. Local residents have talked to the children about Chinese new year, the church and wartime memories. As well as the community coming to us, the children take every opportunity to give something back. Examples include: local litter pick, harvest and christmas performances in the congregational church, serving lunch and entertaining the older residents and leading the remembrance service. Our children play an integral role in the annual celebration of village life (Lapford Revel). We encourage our children to be 'community champions', whereby they dedicate their time to help the community.
We also enjoy opportunities to take on challenges and we encourage children to participate in events, such as World Book Day, Sports Relief and NSPCC Numbers Day, by dressing up and enjoying a range of enriching activities.
Celebrations
Children’s achievements, both within school and outside school, are celebrated in our Celebration Assemblies which are held weekly and which parents/grandparents are welcome to attend.
